The thesis results suggest that the beach optical system integrated with high frequency hydrodynamic information could provide a fast, powerful, and efficient beach monitoring tool, capable to provide high-frequency time series of the shoreline and wave run-up positions, which form major morphological indicators of beach morphodynamics, and an improved understanding of the beach forcing-response mechanisms.
Antonis Chatzipavlis holds a BSc in Marine Sciences, a MSc in Integrated Coastal Zone Management and a PhD in Beach Morphodynamics from the Department of Marine Sciences of the University of the Aegean. His research focuses on coastal morphodynamics/hydrodynamics (with emphasis on the breaker and surf zone), investigation of beach erosion processes, functional/constructional assessment of coastal protection works and coastal zone vulnerability to climate extremes. He has participated in many European and Greek funded research projects focused on beach erosion processes, while he has authored/co-authored several relevant publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and international conferences.
